EMLAB P-Test Livestock

When we were first questioning weather of not any of our cows were pregnant, we started looking into what our options where to check them. There was having the vet check them for us, ultrasound, blood test. When we doing our search we came across the EMLAB P-Test Livestock. I have inserted the link below.

There was some pro and cons in our initially thinking with these, we hadn't really heard of anyone using them. Would they be accurate? But after doing some reading the thing we liked about them was that they could show at what stage a cow was pregnant. Which would help us figure when roughly they would be do or were they open. So we thought for the price we would try them.

Now I know what you all are thinking at this time. P-Test means you have to catch the cows urine and add the to vial. This in a way if you think about it was much like test a human to see if there were pregnant. Next question I know that anyone would have is how do you collect the urine sample? Well that was our question as well, my husband the handy man he is, was able to make something that held a solo cup. Well then it was a waiting game, well needless to say that didn't go as planned. So we thought we would try to contain them, but yet again not going as planned. So my husband thought what if we wait for a cow to pee, then take a syringe and see is we can in a way syphon the needed sample. Well I thought that can potentially degrade or somehow contaminate the sample. But we did try this option with the cow we had been watching for some time. We got the results of Dark Blue, which by the chart means Late term pregnancy. So we looked at it she was in the last three months of her pregnancy. Which made her due end of March, early April . Well she ended up having the calf 04.03.2023 right when we thought she would. We were overjoyed that this worked, so we then we decided to start with the rest of the cows.

Well we have 8 cows , and so far we have been able to check all except 3, well when I was ready to attempt to check the last 3. Boy did we get a surprise, one of those had a little bull calf! So at this time it leaves only 2 needed checked, which is a work in progress, as they never want to corporate on our timeline.

So the pregnant cows we have at this time are:

  1. Hedy due right around October 2023

  2. Nanette due right around June 2023

  3. Penny due right around June 2023

  4. Delilah due right around July 2023

  5. Ruby unknown still needs checked

  6. Harmony unknown still needs checked

  7. Black Betty, heifer calf, born 04.03.2023

  8. Scarlett, bull calf, born 04.18.2023

So at the end of the day we are very happy with the results, hopefully we can give an update June/July as that is when we have several showing due. That we can see the accuracy of this product. Needless to say if this works like we are hoping this is something we surely doing yearly.
